ROLLER-SKATING, DANCING, AND SINGING—USHER is the perfect entertainer. After months of build-up, he finally took the stage on Sunday for the Super Bowl 2024 halftime show at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. In a 13-minute set, he packed three decades' worth of songs.
Wearing a succession of costumes encrusted in rhinestones, Usher appeared on stage for "My Way" and with Alicia Keys for "My Boo." A complete marching band was also presented by the R&B virtuoso, who had them write the word "Usher" in the grass. Jermaine Dupri also appeared to commemorate Confessions' 20th anniversary while Usher opened with the album's lead single. He also brought out H.E.R. for a brief but powerful guitar solo.
Following his 100-show Las Vegas residency and the Friday release of Coming Home, his first album in eight years, Usher performed at Super Bowl LVIII.
Throughout his performance, which took place amid the Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49ers game, Usher performed a number of his best-known songs, including the 2001 R&B classic "U Got It Bad" and the classic club hit "Yeah!" A comeback of the later song has coincided with Confessions' twentieth anniversary.
Apple Music, which has sponsored the event since Rihanna's halftime show at the Super Bowl last year, teased Usher's performance with a short film titled "Where's Usher?" before he took the stage. This helped to fuel rumors that his "Yeah!" collaborators would be joining him on the Super Bowl stage, which they did.
After the event, Apple Music made the performance available in spatial audio, the company's "immersive" sound feature powered by Dolby Atmos. (Short version: It will sound like it does in the stadium.) It accomplished the same thing with Rihanna's performance. Watch it right here.
